20 Spectacular and Surreal Dresses
Today we’re feeling fashionable... with an edge. There’s Haute Couture, Ready to Wear & Mass Market fashion... so in which of these categories does surreal fashion fall under?
Art and fashion have always gone hand in hand. In fact, lots of great designers have shown their fashion fantasies on the catwalk throughout the years: Thierry Mugler amazed us with his motocycle suits and robotic women, Alexander McQueen blew us away with his impossible heels and stuning runways, and of course, Jean-Paul Gaultier left us in awe with his cone bras and over the top futuristic gowns. We already know all these great designers well, (and love them), and that´s why instead of telling you about them, we´ve decided to talk about someone you may not have heard of as often as the above: Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. She especially caught everyone´s eye when she showed her surreal collection on the runway in Milan, and it´s worth mentioning. Cage-dresses, melting fried eggs, lips, piano keys... it was her tribute to Dali and the Surrealist Art Movement.
This Spanish fashion designer made her debut in 1981 in Madrid, right in the middle of an artistic and cultural revolution, the “Movida Madrileña”, which gave way to some of the most relevant artists and personalities of the Spanish scene. Her designs made it to the main catwalks around the country and her masterpieces were showcased in galleries around Spain.
That said, we leave you with 20 spectacular and surreal dresses.
