Job Opportunity

Wordpress Developer

Date Categories Country Type Location
February 25 2026 Programming United States FULL-TIME REMOTE

The Role

We're looking for a WordPress developer who takes ownership of technical direction, not just closes tickets. You'll build custom themes from the ground up using core WordPress functionality. You'll also maintain and

improve existing client sites, some of which aren't as advanced as the sites we're currently making. We need someone who can write code, troubleshoot problems and isn't above rolling up their sleeves on whatever a project requires.

You'll transform designs into clean, responsive websites, develop custom solutions, and build sites that perform well across all devices. When something isn't working, we expect you to dig into why, not just flag it and wait. You approach a quick content update with the same care as a full site build.

Your typical week includes hand-coding WordPress themes, building WooCommerce functionality, optimizing site performance, and collaborating with the team to ensure seamless design-to-development workflows. You'll work across multiple client projects simultaneously at agency pace.

What You'll Need

Required:

  1. 3+ years experience building custom WordPress themes from the ground up
  2. Proficiency with PHP, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3
  3. Gutenberg block development experience
  4. Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) proficiency
  5. WooCommerce development and customization experience
  6. WordPress REST API experience
  7. Strong ability to convert Figma designs to responsive, clean code
  8. Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1)
  9. API integration experience (third-party services, payment gateways)
  10. Version control with Git
  11. Understanding of Core Web Vitals and performance optimization
  12. Portfolio demonstrating custom-coded, responsive websites (no page builder work)

Preferred:

  1. Shopify theme development and Liquid templating experience
  2. Experience with build tools (Vite, Webpack, Gulp, or similar)
  3. Understanding of headless WordPress implementations
  4. College degree

About Us

Boldist is a design and development studio founded in 2008. We've built hundreds of websites and eCommerce stores, launched brands from the ground up, and defined content strategies for multi-billion dollar companies. We do custom work and we care about getting better at it.

What is changing is everything else. AI is reshaping how design and development work, and we want to be at the front of that wave, not reacting to it. We're looking for people who are curious about that shift and want to figure it out together.

We want people who are invested in the work. Not just completing tasks, but thinking about how to do them better.

What We Offer

Compensation & Benefits:

  1. Competitive salary based on experience
  2. Generous PTO (vacation, personal days, and company holidays)
  3. Modern equipment and software licenses provided
  4. Retirement plan

Professional Growth:

  1. Diverse project portfolio spanning multiple industries and tech stacks
  2. Conference attendance and training opportunities
  3. Small teams where your contributions are immediately visible
  4. Direct influence on the technical direction of the projects you build
  5. Opportunity to shape development workflows and standards

Ready to Apply?

Send us your resume, portfolio link, and a brief note about why you're interested in joining our team. Include links to 2-3 WordPress sites you've built using custom code. No page builder examples, please.
