Minigames & Playful Interactions
When the vision is to create a familiar atmosphere and empathize with users, microinteractions and mini-games present themselves as a very effective strategy, with the use of playful interactions increasing rapidly over the last few years.
The majority of microinteractions are decorative, with small animations, reactive cursors, peculiar hovers etc, but mini-games go a little bit further. Interaction is developed through a game with a very simple design, which must be easy to complete quickly, whose purpose is to entertain and delight the user without being too intrusive or becoming the main part of the project. Minigames are also an exceptional oportunity to experiment with new animation libraries, WebGL techniques, AR experiments or machine learning.
Awwwards spends much time collecting various interesting examples, many of our collections are dedicated to these types of interactions, such as Games, Hovers, Cursors and Cute Interactions, Microinteractions, but we’ve now decided to compile this collection exclusively of Mini-Games. We’re always looking for more to add to our collection, so if you have any more examples, get involved and add them to the comments at the bottom of the article. Check out our new book Hot Right Now Vol. 3, which dives into the latest trends in visual design, a must read for digital creatives.
