Texture

In the visual arts, texture is the perceived surface quality. Visual texture is the illusion of having physical texture. Every material and every support surface has its own visual texture. Use of textures can convey a variety of messages and emotions and create a sensory experience for site viewers.

Textures are being used in every sort of design from brochures and business cards to apps and of course web design, where they are extremely common. There are lots of high quality textures available on the market as well as free ones.
